Tokyo can be so overwhelming.
It really is a buzzing metropolis of tall buildings, blinding lights, whizzing cars and dense population.
Having previously lived in Okinawa for 6 months, I was really taken by surprise on how different mainland Japan is.
Tokyo is the largest city in terms of population.
Things here can get congested, crazy, bizarre, chaotic and beautiful. Just get to one of the markets or train stations then you’ll know what I’m talking about.
And as much as I love going places where I find peace and quiet, truth is, I am a big city kind of guy because I grew up in one.
I am an explorer and an observe so I love it when there’s so much to see and do in a city.
The stream of commuters passing you by left and right at a train station, the outrageous signs and decorations of shops and restaurants, the array of colors and characters, the cheerful noises of greeting and invitations, intimidating skyscrapers, the maze of traffic and the congregation of pedestrians, the procession of delicacies, the unexpected quirks and surprises you encounter along the way, Japan really can be so much, but with so much to offer.
It is overwhelming, but that sense of being in the midst of movements and sights is an incredible and wonderful feeling, and it gives great perspectives.
Last Call …
Thanks for allowing me a first in-depth viewing of the Big City in Japan. I don’t think I’d last long in such a place, but I can see that, with some guidance, a journey through it would be something else!
You’d fare well somewhere in Nagano. The times I was there, I see people fishing. Fishing here in Japan is big, so I don’t think you’d have a problem being here. 🙂
I used to travel a lot to Japan. It’s such an interesting country and I do love Tokyo. It will be on our list for 2017! Thanks for sharing.
Must be exciting for you. Japan is defitely a country to get back to. Thanks for the comment and visit.
A big, modern city by night is mesmerising isn’t it? Does Tokyo feel safe? I guess it does for a fit young man. I’d love the markets and the architecture, our tower photo is gorgeous!
The safest I’ve ever been. When that period where cops and black people were at each other, I was telling myself how lucky I am that I am in Japan.
Seems overwhelming, great pics
Overwhelming can be associated with exciting. 🙂
A wonderful view of a city that seems is built on ‘controlled chaos’ ~ almost a magical feeling when looking at the view at night. An incredible city, and you do it justice with both your photos and words.
You know. I had a sentence with the phrase “controlled chaos” but I decided to not include from the way I set up my writing. I love that you always know what Im talking about.
You certainly have created the mood through your photos Rommel. It’s not a place where you could be bored!
Most definitely, Karen. The city is always alive, alive, alive.
Although a city of this size would feel overwhelming to me, we do love big cities and their energy as well as being out in nature. I do love your low-light photography, something I need to work on.
I need to work on my night photography. I struggled here. I couldn’t achieve any sharpness. Oh well, I have to be okay with what I got. Thanks anyways, Lu. And Buon Viaggo, mi amica.
Fantastic night photos, Rommel. 🙂
enjoyed the colorful night shots – and the couple looking out at the end was a nice closing shot – love the photo with the orange curves of highways – such a cool place R….
I’m so glad the couple shot came out a decent otherwise I wouldn’t have had a last call shot. 🙂
Ha! 💙💙💙
Beautiful Tokyo by night! I like your pix of the Tokyo Tower. It was many years ago when I visited Tokyo, which always reminds me of my original hometown Hong Kong. If you go to HK, let me know what you think of the night scenery from the Peak.
I know that one only from reading other bloggers post about. So far I haven’t read anything negative about it. 🙂
The night view of the city is always beautiful and mysterious.
I always like going to places with overlooking views.
Bit like my worst nightmare 🙂 🙂 Look at all those people!!!! I do like the big city vibe now and again, but monster buildings aren’t for me. I’ve never even been sure that I’d like NYC! But if somebody bought me a ticket I’d go check it out. 🙂
I most definitely understand non big city folks. 🙂
Beautiful. Seems like a great place to live. All those colours 😍
You’d fit right in here with your quirks. 🙂
That’s a possibility😁😀. I did try to Google PhD programmes and schools in Japan about a week ago, didn’t arrive at any good result, heck I should find a colourful school to fit into. Lool.
Omg. Is that a regular normal day with all those people in the street like that?
I should have put a caption on that one. It is actually a pedestrian crossing in Shibuya. Lots of people cross the street at one time. A lot of them are crossing just to be part of the craze. 🙂
Wow!
