This isn’t your regular parade. It was like a club scene in the middle of the street full of high-energy people dancing, letting loose and having so much fun

The Sophomore Slump Recommends
Before anything…
Congratulations to Birdman for winning Best Picture, Direction, Cinematography and Screenplay from this year’s Oscars.
Also to Beck who won Grammy’s Best Album, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance.
Both of which I recently recommended before getting their awards. 😉
Speaking of Grammy and Oscar…
Movie: Chicago – Best Musical Movie? I’m thinking Chicago will give any musicals in not very old history a run for that title. 🙂
Music: Spearkerboxxx/The Love Below by Outkast – A 2-in-1 album separated by the duo’s own elements but each collaborating each other out. Genius, and brilliantly executed!

Imagine. The middle of the road. Loud music. Really loud music. A horde of people. Of all ages. They’re dancing. A lot of dancing. Everyone is all smiles. Lotsa smiles. Everyone’s happy. Everybody’s free. Jumping. Gallivanting. All have so much energy. The energy was through the roof it was intoxicating. It was like a club scene. And they are just parading as they party.
Oh yeah, before I forget … They all wear costumes. 🙂
*All images are taken with Samsung Note 3.
Masks, make-up, floats, costume themes, colors, fireworks, confetti, whistles, booze, etc.
Energy. Free-spirits. Smiles. And all fun, fun, fun, ! It’s a day of “escapades and unrestrained laughters”. Rethymno celebrates Carnival like no other.
Next, we’ll either visit a palace or I’ll show you a video I made 😉
Ahh I want to be there partying!
You could so fit well on this occasion. 😉
It doesn’t look like there is a financial crisis in Greece. They enjoy their life with no problem. Good to know.
I was going to say that at the end, but it has a bit of negative connotation to it.
I do not blame them. I am glad they can enjoy their life even in the not simple situation and behave like that. It is like a good example for everybody.
I don’t blame them as well. t’s like this in the Philippines too. 😉 We know how to smile, be content, and have a good time from time to time despite calamites, global problems, and dire situations.
Looks really colorful and fun! Your pictures really capture the atmosphere Rommel 🙂
So much color. So much fun. Thanks, Karen.
It sure looks like these folks know how to have a good time.
Yup, I investigated if they had some sort of happy potion at the beginning of the parade, but I found none. 😀 They were that euphoric.
Have you found the potion I hope you would’ve bottled it.
😀 That’s easy. I can make one for you. Ahihihi 😉
Oh wow, that’s quite a party you’ve got there 😉
I believe this is as wild as Cancun during springbreak. Ahihihi 😀
What fun!
So much fun! 🙂
looks fun! is this carnival held every february? you get there in a good season.
Yes, before the start of the Holy Week. 😉
MUCH less restrained than the Algarve 🙂
But why? You have a post of the one for Algarve?
There were many fewer people but I didn’t stay into the evening so who knows- it may have got wild! Shimmy with me baby! https://restlessjo.wordpress.com/2015/02/19/all-set-to-shimmy/
Fun to experience the traditions of other cultures…especially the fun partying traditions!
Yup! It feels so good to immerse in a different culture once again.
You surely captured the spirit of the festival in all its primal wildness.
The picture-taking is a surprise to me as well. While I was wishing I had my fancy camera, after composing this post I’m very much pleased with the camera phone results.
Energy! A cause and effect of a good event.
Seriously, they just dance, dance, dance. The energy was feels-good incredible.
Hard to believe all the dire reports of austerity and hard times, seeing these images!!
I was going to bring that up but decided not to. I was thinking the same thing. But then again, it’s like that in the Philippines. We had problems with weather calamities, but when a festivity is happening, rain or shine, all worries are off to the side, and just have fun.
The Greeks obviously had a National Zero-worry Day. 😀
A very energetic post, Rommel. Looks like one great big party. 🙂
Forget clubs… street party everywhere! 😀
The Carnivale spirit seems to have traveled the globe! Great fun and such colorful images! 🙂
Nice to see Carnivale images from other blogs as well.
So colorful and full of life ! I can feel the energy bursting through my screen 😀
Would have loved to be there and be a part of it but a bit late to the party, aren’t I?
It’s alright, I’ll do with the photos for today 😛
I can easily see you get your move on with the Greeks. 🙂
Hmm is it just a costumed street party? It reminds me of Sinulog in Cebu.
As for question, I ‘ll watch the video.
Each float has theme costumes. Isn’t that Sinulog have choreographed dances?
Love this, there is something special all around Europe with Carnivale… I was in Munich at the time and on my one day off went out in the freezing cold and visiting downtown Marienplatz, and as it was Sunday it was barren so I went it for a drink and a bagel, started writing then an hour+ later walked outside to a similar scene of controlled chaos of a Carnivale parade. Brilliant fun 🙂
Ive seen blogposts about the one in Munich as well.
Makes you forget about writing for a bit eh. That’s what I was feeling at the parade watching. It really zeroes out your worries. 😉
The one here. I was worried they were going to cancel because of high possibility of rain. But no, it was on rain or shine. I did rain but only a bit.
So true, it was one of the most spontaneous and happy parades I have seen ~ washes away any worries 🙂 Great seeing this post, as it put me back in that state-of-mind! Cheers ~
What colour, what life, what joy…wonderful images Rommel.
Yup… It’s like a celebration of a colirful, joyful life. 😀
Well that was what you call colorful. I’d wager the event’s tempo was just as colorful and vibrant. Keep capturing breathtaking snapshots!
I never imagine what you look likes while taking those good picture bro …lol wow.
What a fabulous and fun photo essay. Man, we are tooooo conservative in West Michigan. We kick up our heels by eating pazcki’s on Tuesday. Weee. :p
Well that looks like fun!
What fun!! If I ever go, I shall time it for carnival! 🙂
Wow! They really do know how to have fun!! 🙂
Great photos! Wow
This festival seems like a must-see thing. I would love to visit Crete and wear a mask on this festival, Rommel!
