Ventura, CA. This is currently where I reside. I’ve been here for about 3 years now, give and take. 😉 And for a half day, I played a little tourist in my own county of residence.
First off, I had my lunch for the day at the Mugu Rock. A lot of car commercials are set here. As a matter of fact, when I was there some people are shooting a car model. Iron Man also flew over and landed here.
Then I went to Olivas Adobe.
This is Ventura County’s only remaining Monterey-style adobe home from the Rancho era. Only a few historic places here in Ventura, Olivas Adobe is a historical site in its truest sense showing how the waelthy settlers used to live way back in 1800’s.
The best time to come here is during the weekends where the docents are available to show you the ropes. I was here during the weekday but there’s a class field trip that day that I got lucky to shamelessly get in with them to learn from the guides. 😀
I’ll give you one. These chairs are not just regular chairs.
They were also used as …
And it’s the boys who empty them out. 😀
And ow, they have a rose garden.
Enough of Olivas Adobe…
I then went to another mission, San Buenaventura Mission. I’ve been here before but didn’t take any picture. I went to town this time. 😀
They have the best mini-museum showing old books and clothes. They also have a nice courtyard.
It’s a nice decent mission given it being small.
Last…
I ended the day with ….
… in Silver Strand Beach in Channel Islands.
I hope you enjoyed our half-a-day tour.
Want to know more of Ventura. Check out my Ventura tag.

A reblog, cool beans!
😀
What a fantastic job you did on this story, and you captured some great shots too.

Thanks for the comment and visit, paulettemotzko.
What i said was one hundred per cent true.
It would be fun to collaborate on an article. Do you live in Orange County?
I live here – Ventura. But yeah, I’ll agree on a meet. Prepare where’ll go and do. 😉
I’ve been to Ventura but once and not see the places you played tourist. Did you see that tiny dancing green man on your last flower picture? Love that sunset, great capture.
Urgh! I don’t see it. I see green stuff in the middle. It’s a weird unique flower, if anything.
Thank you for the visit…I have not been there. It is a beautiful part of the world.
It certainly has a charm of its own. Thank YOU for visiting my place. 😀
The missions is where California began and the stories behind each of them would be fascinating to know.
Do you know how many missions there are in CA?
I shared this on PhotosThatInspireWords.wordpress.com
Paulette M.
It said 21 on the internet. I’ve been to eight or nine of it. California is big for me to visit it all, but you’ll never know. 😀
That is great to know. It would be great to do a story and photos on every one.
What is your name and what part of Ca are you in?

I love Ventura so much! I went about a year ago for a concert and instantly was charmed by the little town. I’d love to go back sometime 🙂
Hi Five, plainshirt!
Ventura is often overlooked because it’s the gateway to other more prominent coastal towns, but there is much to do there. On the other hand, just to sit and watch the waves is enough for me! Your photos are just great. I’ve been the Mission many times, but I can’t recall ever visiting the Adobe. I’ll have to fit that in some time. Nice place to live, Rommel!
I am set up to leave here by the end of the year. But yeah, the fact that it sits perfectly in the middle and the weather is nicer than the hot LA and central CA, I really am considering coming back here to settle.
Adobe can be your quick stop right around an exit next time you go up north. 😉
Oh, antique potty chair. I wonder how old days’ people used it. It’s easier and cleaner to do outside. Thank you for sharing, Rommel!
But can you imagine how awkward to do your business there? Eeeek 😮
Why is it awkward outside? Others watch?
Those are inside a bedroom. Awkward doing your thing there.
A nice day out, I bet the Mugu rock can be bleak in a storm. Your fountain pic is great and do you know those ‘chairs’ are called thunderbox? 🙂
Thanks for the tidbit, Gilly. See now I’m the one learning. 😉 The coast can get really foggy, that’s for sure.
… always good if one is able to tag oops surely I mean mingle and listen along with another group’s guide 😉
Lovely pictures Rommel you’ve got some really nice close ups I like !
Envious you are so close to the coast *pinch 🙂
It’s okay. I did just tag along. I asked and they let me. 🙂 Ask and you shall receive. 😀
Those two places are amazing! And you’re photos are comfortingly beautiful, each one of them! Nice, nice! Clap, clap!
Thank you! Thank you! 😀
The Olivas Adobe looks wonderful…thanks for the visit Rommel. You did a great job with the photos, especially that last call …..absolute show stopper!! 🙂
It’s been quite a bit while for my sun pic to reappear. 🙂
It looks like a charming town to live 🙂 Thank you for the tour, Rommel! The last call… I’m speechless.
Get a speech lesson, Amy. 😀
Thanks for the tour! Very cool rock area.
That is one of the prettiest sunsets I’ve seen posted…beautiful:)
Thank you for the strong comment, Pam.
I have always enjoyed fountains at missions. The soft sound of the water creates a feeling of tranquility and peace. Thanks for the post.
Ahihihi. Fountains, one of the common features of a mission. 😀 it’s definitely one to check out for evry visit to missions.
It’s so much fun to play tourist where you live. I don’t think most people really think about this. Great post!!
Cause people get comfortable and think they know a lot about the place just by driving around. I didn’t actually exactly know qbout Olivas Adobe until I saw it from a local magazine.
Thanks for a fabulous tour and another location to add to my already growing long list of must see places 🙂
Hope you get to visit Ventura one day. And if you do, Ojai fits your iterinary.
I certainly did check out your Ventura tag, and those old historical villages and museums are always quite interesting.
Thanks so much for checking out my area, Allan.
the fountain photo!! 🙂
I got shocked when I took the photo myself. It was my first try. I tried to shot more of it but the first ended up to be the best still. Glad you liked it.
What a treat! Thanks! Those were stunning photographs!
Thanks for the kind words. 🙂
Hi Rommel! Beautiful pictures. Thank you for showcasing our town. I was just at the Farmer’s Market on Kimball & Telephone Roads this past Thursday and had a great time. I love living here. There are so many great things to see and do. Take care pal. 🙂
Hi Mike! Hi five! Going to Farmer’s Market is always a great idea. They have the freshest, juiciest produce esp. the oranges. 😀
I love these pictures, Rommel! The missions are beautiful, the flowers, all of it! But, omigosh, that sunset! Unbelievable! ❤
😀 Saved the always favorite for last.
I’ve driven through Ventura many times, but never stopped and investigated. What a dope.
Understood! So many places I always just pass through as well.
Thanks for the tour Rommel. It has been many years since I have been to Ventura and I have not seen the sights you brought to life. Great sunset!
There’s always a chance for next time.
We will be back. 🙂
I liked all the photographs but in the end you had to share that sunset photograph and I fell in love with it and forgot about everything else ! Stunning !
Last Call special. 😀
A perfect ending to a perfect day! These landscapes are inspiring.
Ending the day watching the sun go down always work. Makes the day complete.
Gorgeous photos! I think you’ve captured the beauty and the histroy that is Ventura quite beautifully. The weather has been so nice lately, I’m sure you are getting a ton of great shots. 🙂
Ventura’s weather is always nice. It gets hot when you go further down.
You had me at Ventura! I love it there. Great place and nice people live there too. 🙂
… only because they idolize me. Ahihihih 😀
Beautiful!!!!! Been to Ventura but never saw those sites. Thanks for sharing your surroundings with us!
You can always put it as consideration next time. 😉
Now I want to go visit some missions. I was born here and never visited.
You have got to visit some. So far, San Juan Capistrano gets my vote for the best one of all eight or nine that I visited.
Thanks!
Lovely photos!! I used to live in Oxnard, so I’m very familiar with Ventura. It’s such a lovely place – I miss it sometimes. Celeste 🙂
Former-Venturan, High Five! 🙂 I’ll miss this place as well when I leave here.
Nice to see your post about Ventura! I wish I had seen the other sights. I especially wanted to go to the Channel Islands, but it was winter and there were no boats there; also I didn’t have enough time. Hopefully I can make it back there one day. 🙂
There’s always that chance. Loved your post about Ventura.
I want to thank everyone for the great reception this post is receiving. It’s nice because this is the very post about my current residency. Thank you.
I love the whole form follows function simple beauty of some old adobe homes. I especially enjoyed your frozen dancing waters fountain with the nice bokeh background. Tasty, that.
