  • Seahorses don’t have stomach.
  • They are lie-in-wait kinds of predator.
  • They eat any living things that are small enough to fit in their mouth.

Did you know?

  • Seahorses are unique in the Animal Kingdom because it’s the male that gets pregnant.
  • During delivery, he undergoes sharp labor contractions to expel them.

Did you know?

  • Male seahorses spend their life being pregnant.

Did you find Nemo?

  • Nemo is on that first picture. Well, Nemo’s kind at least. Because of the movie “Finding Nemo”, clownfish may be the world’s familiar fish.

Did you find the seahorse in the second picture?

Did you know?

  • Seahorses are masters of disguise. When slow-moving seahorses feel threatened, their best defense is to disappear.

It says: Keep in mind for clownfishes’Β torpedo-shape body, large fins and their swimming style when exploring seahorses – one of the most unusual fishes in the sea!

Here’s another clownfish.

  1. I love seahorses – and normal horses. Didn’t know that the male had the babies. Love Nemo too – in actual fact I have a stuffed one – and I watched the film twice!

  2. Very interesting and colorful post. I was aware that male seahorses bore the young, but I didn’t know they spent their lives pregnant. That is sad. 😦 . What a purpose to have in life… poor little guys.

    • I guess for them it is fulfilling … but yeah, they probably run away from female seahorses all the time. πŸ˜€

The information I got here are written on the sides of the tanks.

  3. Nice captures of elusive creatures. Besides the quality of the photos – man, I was impressed by the cleanliness of those tanks! beautiful. Someone really cares.

  4. I didn’t see where you told us where you took the pictures. Was it at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla? If not, you need to visit their seahorses. I think they have 12 or 13 different species, including the leafy seahorse.

  5. Awwww..that is so adorable! Oh, I am sure men are glad they are not like the seahorse males..hee hee. Stunning photo’s once again rommel. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Sonel. If reincarnation is true and we had an option to choose, I definately do not want to be a seahorse. There’s actually a video in the middle of the tanks. And the males don’t just expel one or two, they are delivering out a handful, and multiple little ones at different intervals. Yikes!

      • LOL! Now that doesn’t sound like fun at all. But they sure are beautiful and at least we can admire them. Your comment made me think about male spiders as well that is eaten by the female. And here I thought people were strange. heheh

        • Ow. I remember that big spider that you posted before. Hihi, you told the spider to stay put so you can run and get your camera. bwahaha. πŸ˜€ See, I remember.

Ok, so no to 1. Seahorse 2. Spider. Duly noted.

      • Whahahaha! Oh, you have a great memory indeed. LOL!
Maybe you were Columbus reincarnated or some famous traveller. Well, Columbus sure didn’t have the stunning photo’s you have of his travels. πŸ™‚
No, you can just come back again as rommel and entertain us with your beautiful shots! πŸ™‚

Don't be shy to say hi.
