My First Summer in Ventura

You know that song more or less a decade ago by Tori Amos called “A Sorta Fairytale”. The first line of the song goes “On my way up north, up on the Ventura….” Well in case you’ve been wondering what the place looks like, here are some of the events, places and other things associated with the county of Ventura.

Seagulls are very representative of Ventura and the whole Southern California. Taken at Channel Islands.

Annual International Festival in Oxnard. I love this picture. I have 8 different captures of the two kids. They  look like cheeky cheerful cherubs.

Annual Greek Festival. This is when I get to taste Pita plate again. The photo shows a woman dancing while she circle around an alcoholic drink as everyone around claps to the beat of music.

Taken at the annual Ventura County Fair. The Agricultural side exhibits the bountiful resources, harvests and nature that Ventura is grateful to have.

Three Days Grace, Trace Adkins, REO Speedwagon, Matt Moris and Lifehouse were among the artists line-up who performed at the Ventura County Fair.

I liked this picture before I even found out that it’s a favorite capture amongst photographers and onlookers of Ventura.

Taken at the Ventura County Fair. The fair had barnful of very lively livestocks events such as horse riding, bullride, pig race show, wool riding, goat auctioning, aquarium and other exhibits of other farm animals.

Fine dining, live music, water activities, shops and island trips. Plenty of offering in Ventura Harbor Village. I’m also thumbing up for the Ventura Comedy Bar located here.

Ventura takes pride with their artistic talents. Plenty of art exhibitions and photo galleries you can visit.

Taken at the annual Seabee Days. It’s a weekend event where the Seabees get the chance to show what they “CAN DO”. You can also check out the Seabee Museum in Port Hueneme. Admission is free and is open to public.

Like many of festivals happening in Ventura, the Camarillo Fiesta and Street Fair was loaded with music, booths, games and rides.

Sand Sculpture at the Hueneme Beach Festival.

The aforementioned song also talked about “driving up on the 101”. It was talking about the Pacific Coast Highway where you can coast through panoramic views of ocean fronts.

The last paragraph of the song ends with “Where I could taste heavenly, feel out the summer breeze”.

I definitely concur as my first 3 months residency in Ventura turned out to be an exhilarating more so adventurous exploration.

What I missed: Strawberry Festival, Tall Ships Festival, Oxnard Salsa Festival, Citrus Balloon Festival, Pirate Day

What I didn’t include in the pictures: Pt. Mugu Surfing Contest, Ventura Theater, Main Street, Heritage Square Oxnard

What’s left for me to do: Island Trips, San Buenaventura, Olivas Adobe Park, More Galleries

  1. Seems like a beautiful place and I love the “2 kids picture” too. Looks like they had a lot of fun.

Must be one great first summer you had in Ventura. Thanks for sharing 🙂
